A new version of PySide is now available.

What’s changed since 0.3.0?

With the technical preview release a few weeks ago we moved from a Boost based source code to a CPython one. This move was necessary to reduce our footprint. Now we have the first official release of this new PySide based on Shiboken (CPython) generator. Since the technical preview the main points are:

- Bindings for the last missing modules: Phonon, QtScript, QtScriptTools, QtMaemo5, QtHelp, QtMultimedia, QUiTools and QXmlPatterns;
- Fixed some memory and reference leaks;
- Lots of bugs fixed;
- Revamped documentation.

PySide maemo packages

It has been a week since the official PySide 0.2.2 release and we finally finished the Maemo packages, that includes full implementition of Qt 4.6 and the new module QtMaemo5.

The packages are available at extras-devel repository. More instructions on how to install (into device and/or Scratchbox) can be found at PySide website - download section.

The PySide team would like to thank all those who helped on this release, reporting bugs, sending patchs and discussing on irc channel. Also, we would like to invite users and developers to discuss the future of a new PySide "pythonic" API, and help us to produce a powerful Qt binding.

Today the PySide team released a new version of project, with full support for Qt 4.6, including QtMultimedia.

Another great news is support for Mac OS X. The first working package have already been released and you can download it from PySide website.

Ogre 3D with OpenGLES render system

Some time ago I start a new implementation of a Ogre OpenGLES render system, to get this running in the future on Maemo devices, I finished this but never get a chance to see this working on Maemo. But now the things have changed and the new Maemo device already have support to OpenGLES, and my code was merged in Ogre mainline, I can go back and start the test but first I need update this to OpenGLES 2.0 because the old code is implemented on OpenGLES 1.0. I will keep you updated about the news and I hope show some videos :D.

Due some problems with gcc-4.2 (currently available on Fremantle), we had compile PySide armel packages by ourselves, and that takes some time. Today I generated and uploaded these packages to PySide repository. Instructions to get this running can be found at PySide site at Download section.

I just sent the OpenGL ES OGRE render system patch to OGRE Patch Tracking System. The code is also available at openbossa git repository.

Ideas and comment are really welcome.

Some features are still missing, like:

* Support to "GL_IMG_vertex_program" extension.

Last month, I spend some time trying to learn OpenGL ES[1] and to practice it, I'm been working on new OGRE[2] render backend to mobile devices. In order to test this, I've used some software OpenGL ES simulation like Vincent[3] and PowerVR[4].

At the moment, I've already got the basics OGRE samples running, but there are some things to be fixed, which I intend to fix on the following weeks.

If someone is interested in this code, send me a e-mail and I can send it back, When everything work well, I will send this to OGRE guys.

OGG support on Mobile MythTv

A new version of MMythTv has been released today, the main changes in this new version is the support to ogg format to play transcoded videos and code updated to the new OS2008.

With ogg we get more stability with gstreamer components and no changes are needed in the current version of ubuntu gutsy.

We have buttons

Yes, finally I have buttons to play games in my nokia device. Ok, this not the best key layout to play games, and the display is not multitouch to implement a virtual controller, but it is possible to have fun playing games.

During the last weekend, I spent some time porting the snes9x[1] Zauros version[2], to n810 and integrating this with osso api to handle mime types by file manager, and create the maemo package[3].

Because of the lack of time, the current version has some problems: the sound is not 100% and you can get some screen flicks during the startup.

Today I've finished the port of abiword[1] to new maemo SDK. In this screenshot you can see it running on scratchbox. With this new SDK is much more simple to port the currents GTK applications as the changes in maemo_app_view make this more similar and you do not need create "workarounds" :).

If you want port your application, in maemo.org[2] you can find a lot of documents to help in this task, this doc[3] is very helpful.

Xomap 3x more fast

During these days I found this patch[1] from Dan Amelang about a Xorg optimization to work with pixbuf composite (888 over 565). This patch makes Xorg about 3x faster. I made a little change in the patch for optimization of another function too.

I've exchanged some e-mails with Dan, and apparently this patch has a problem with small images but I didn't find this problem yet. If someone would like to try this patch you can install the package[2] above and if you get the bug, please report to me. But be careful because this patch is an experimental code and can freeze your X server.

Cairo, Canvas and EXA

The last days I have used my free time to read about cairo and X acceleration. I created some tests to verify cairo performance on N800, because this is the main component for a GtkCanvas, this need be fast, cworth[1] and another cairo guys have helped me a lot in irc channel. I am still working on some tests and making some optimizations to get the best results and very soon I will publish the results.

The problem is that in N800 device the current version of cairo does not have full support for RGB 565 surfaces, and these days I read in the blog[2] from openmoko[3] guys that they have the same problems.

Another great thing is the current performance of EXA acceleration, you can see this on this benchmark[4] posted by cworth[1].

GMythStream and libgmyth

After the release of MaemoMyth, some people are having problems with GMythStream, then Melunko[1] created this page[2] to help us to solve the most common problems.

Another great news is about Totem[3] and libgmyth[4], Bastien Nocerap[5] is working on totem plugin engine and a plugin to MythTv using libgmyth. And now libgmyth is part of Fedora development project. You can find the rpm packages in this site[6].

MaemoMyth release 0.1 beta

MaemoMyth is a Maemo front-end to MythTv, with this you can watch live TV, and recorded files.

To make MaemoMyth work with mythv backend it's necessary to use gmyth streamer server that will convert your files to a format supported by the device. Instructions to install GMS and configure your environment can be found here[1].

GtkCanvas and Transitions

This week I and Andrunko had some discussions about a light implementation of Gtk components to use in applications with animations like fade, transitions, resizes, like QT uses QGraphicsView.

On Gtk a big discussion already started on gtk-devel mailing list, about a new GtkCanvas implementation. Some studies about the current canvas states can be found at [http://live.gnome.org/ProjectRidley/CanvasOverview].

While nothing is decided we (I and Andrunko) using the free time, started a implementation of transitions based in GtkTimeline[http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444659] .

With this new component you can create animations very easy using GObject properties, like this code above:

Conduit

What is conduit?
Conduit is a synchronization solution for GNOME which allows the user to take their emails, files, bookmarks, and any other type of personal information and synchronize that data with another computer, an online service, or even another electronic device.

This weekend I spent some time on this amazing project and create a simple module to keep you updated with the latest youtube videos which was already integrated in svn code.

Some of the ideas I have for conduit include integration with N800 device to synchronize contacts, playlists, bookmarks, musics, photos, videos, and much more. Part of the work has already started with the network module writen by John Stowers, which uses avahi to publish the synchronization service over the network.

At this moment I'm working on a new application for n800. It's a mythtv-frontend using lib gmyth. Last week I received this ui specification to implement it using Gtk:

When I received this specification the first thing I thought was to create a GtkWidget and re-implement the expose function for drawing each controls with these images. But after reading how Gtkrc and Gtk engines work, I discovered a lot of useful things which can be used to create this visual in my application without workarounds.

But now I have few other questions, is it correct to create new design specifications only for my application? Won't it break all usability? My concern is the user is adapted with the current theme and styles, and I will change lots of things in my application.

Maybe the correct way is create the application using the default Gtk controls and a new Gtk theme with these design specifications if the user choses it.

Gstreamer autoplug elements for n800

After some problems with gstreamer autoplug on maemo environment because the audio sink and decoder in the same element, I create this element "playbinmaemo", this is very simple to use like gstreamer playbin but this is more simple and small, you can play any audio and video files supoorted by device.
For now you can play files using gst-launch like this:

gst-launch-0.10 playbinmaemo uri=file:///home/user/MyDocs/.videos/Nokia_N800.avi
or
gst-launch-0.10 playbinmaemo uri=file:///home/user/MyDocs/.sounds/Road_To_Ruin.mp3

Tapioca# and Landell Status

After a long time without news about the Landell project, I post this entry to keep you updated about landell and Tapioca# status.

Landell is a Voip client written in C#, after some time working on the new Tapioca# implementation and on Telepathy# using new Dbus# implementation by ALP, I needed to update Landell for this new framework. A lot of work is necessary for this, I and Kenneth have already started this process to produce a test version (this version is not stable, and is not recommended for use yet). After this rewrite of several classes was necessary, and this consumes much time an work, and unfortunately I'm very busy with private projects and gmyth, therefore I needed to pause Landell project.

The good news is: Kenneth is working on a new Voip Client called Coligo, written in Python, this project is progreding very fast. Some pictures and status can be found on project page.

After a long time working on private projects and without post, im back. Now I'm working on gmyth library and gmyth-stream server with Arthur, gmyth-stream is a nice project to provide you access your desktop media using your 770/n800 the server will convert requested file to resolution and format necessary for being able to play on your device. Eg. you can watch you HD movie in your device, the server will make a stream of hd movie contents and convert to device format. Now I'm working in gmyth-stream gstreamerer plug-in because the server will work with another tools like memcoder.

About gmyth this is a great library which you can control your mythtv backend, this is very useful with you 770/n800 you can watch and schedule yours mythtv videos and live contents using your device. Together gmyth-stream this is a powerful library you can record and watch a lot of format videos.

New year, new projects, new files

Hello all,

After some days on vacation, i am finally back. I read all comments about rhythmbox package (thanks to all) and saw that some people had some problems with daapsharing. The problem happens because this feature is still experimental and has many bugs. I will be working together with rhythmbox team to make this feature more stable. About the interface comments, i will sit down with INdT designer guy to see what we can do.

Other news is that i will be working on a new project to build a bluetooth manager interface, to make the use of device services more easy in gnome desktop. For more information visit : bluez.org

The end of year

Hi all, the end of year is comming and i will be on vacation until january, 15th.

Probaby this is my last post of the year. Because of this I am finishing my tasks for this year and together i finished the first package of rhythmbox for maemo plataform (Nokia 770). I made various changes in the interface and gstreamer player.

After various patches, finally my code for podcast support is included in rhythmbox main CVS, and the new release 0.9.2 with various new features is out. Changes in Rhythmbox 0.9.2

The next step is the maemo platform port, with daapsharing suport, here are some screenshots of port, without UI changes, only changes in gstreamer pipelines to support codecs available on 770.

Acabei de adquirir mais um brinquedinho espetacular, o tão esperado GameCube, realmente e um aparelho poderoso, os jogos que joguei não demoraram nada para carregar e os gráficos são surpeendentes.

E já estou esperando chegar os jogos que comprei para tirar um racha com a galera no "Super Mario Kart", viajar nas aventuras do "Zelda" e "Super Mario", enfrentar monstros no "Metroid".

Mas ainda acho que não é a hora de aposentar meu PS2, os jogos da sony são imbatíveis o GT4 reamente ficou como eu esperava, o ronco do motor do carro, vento, asfalto, cenario impressionantes, milhares de carros futuristas e historicos, fizeram do GT4 o melhor jogo de corrida na minha opinião. Outro jogo clássico é o FinalFantasy um RPG completo. Sem contar o novo jogo que descobri estes dias "ICO" que é uma obra de arte e sua sequencia o "Shadow of the colossus" que ainda nao joguei mas parece tao bom quanto, com graficos ainda melhores.

Nova release do Abiword

A nova release do Abiword "AbiWord v2.3.6 "Math is hard!"" já está disponivél para download, o maior destaque desta release é o suporte a equacões matemáticas no Mac OSX e windows NT, sendo que o suporte para windows XP e 98 já esta pronto mas não ficou a tempo para sair nesta release. Além desta funcionalidade muitos bugs foram corrigos tornando o aplicativo mais estavél. Outra caractéristica importante é o suporte a plataforma Maemo da nokia que vem desde a versão 2.3.4.

Parabéns a todo o time Abiword e aguardamos anciosamente pela versão 2.4.

Bem seguindo a minha rotina de indicacão de filmes, hoje vou indicar este filme Koreano "Old Boy", o filme realmente tem uma historia bem elaborada e um final surpeendente, nota 10 para o filme, recomendo a todos que gostam de filmes alternativos.

Finalmete estou desfrutando do meu novo brinquedinho, chegou a mais ou menos 2 semanas, e eu to enchedo de porcaria. Mas e muito bom, realmente a aple sabe oque faz e faz com perfeicao. So fiquei trites com meu iTrip que nao consigo configurar de jeito algum, mas um dia eu consigo.

Este foi o filme do final de semana, já está nas locadoras. O filme conta a historia de um cara que já está a 1 ano sem dormir, e começa a ter algumas paranoias. Uma mistura de Clube da Luta e Amnésia.
Vale a pena assistir.

Neste domingo, a galera do INdT se reuniu na casa do Ruda/Luck/Luiz para comemorar o aniversário do Ruda (04/08) e Luiz(13/08), todos foram derrubados na piscina :D, carne e cerveja não faltaram.

English Day

Amanhã é dia de english day. Agora é isso aqui toda quinta não é permitido falar português no serviço. Sai cada coisa, mas é legal ajuda a melhorar o inglês e acho que esta e a intenção, e não ficar tirando onda da cara de quem não sabe :).
Esta foto ai e a foto de divulgação do projeto, que foi lançado pela nossa equipe e parece que vai ser "noticia" no jornal de circulação interno do INdT.

Atividades fisicas

Esta semana vou começar mais uma temporada de acadêmia, ninguém sabe quanto tempo isso vai durar mas espero que dure bastante. A acadêmia é bem estruturada, com bastante orientadores e muitos equipamentos e outras coisitas mais....
obs: Já estou todo dolorido mas isso faz parte né...

Ontem postei na lista do abiword o primeiro pacote oficial do abiword versão 2.3.4 para plataforma Maemo, e hoje já estava disponivél para dowload na pagina oficial do AbiWord, podem baixar e instalar nos seus aparelhos nokia 770.

Futebol

Nesta segunda feira teve pelada, se é que pode chamar de pelada a bagunça que nos fizemos, ninguem conseguia correr depois dos 5 primeiros minutos de futebol. A galera tá em boa forma mas o clima e a altura em relação ao nivel do mar atrapalhou o rendimento dos jogadores.

O time de amarelo ganhou de 10x5, mas o jogo de volta já está marcado para semana que vem.

Filme da Semana

Bem esta semana assisimos o filme O terceiro olho (The I inside), conta a histroria de um rapaz que sofre um acidente e entra em coma, ao voltar do coma não lembra dos ultimos 2 anos, durante o tratamento ele começa a ter lembranças do passado e poder interagir com elas. É uma boa indicação para quem gosta de filmes viajados, bem ao estilo Efeito Borboleta.

Final de semana

Este final de semana foi bem parado por causa das chuvas, assistimos alguns filmes (indicação "Quero Ser John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich, EUA, 1999)" para quem gosta de filmes alternativos e viajados).
De festa esta semana rolou o aniversário de um ano da academia R2 em uma cachaçaria muito massa, onde os barris de cachaça formavam as paredes do lugar, e uma banda da região tocava um som legal.

Donnie Darko

Assisti estes dias o filme "Donnie Darko". O filme é muito viajado, vale a pena assistir, até agora estou tentando entender. Vou ver novamente com os comentários do diretor para ve se chego a alguma conclusão.

O filme trata de viajens no tempo, universo paralelo, buraco de minhoca é de embaralhar a cabeça de qualquer um.

Capital do Forró

A viagem para Caruaru este final de semana foi legal, apesar de não ter ficado a noite para o show de forró, deu para conhecer a cidade e a cultura da região, e até um "cabra" que inventou de nadar bebado e morreu por ali mesmo :D.

A foto ao lado é na entrada do museu do forró, onde conta um pouco da vida do forró, e algumas grandes figuras da musica nordestina como Luiz Gonzaga e Elba Ramalho.

Inauguração do apartamento do Ruda

Este final de semana rolou a festa de estreia do apartamento do Ruda, a galera do INdT compareceu em massa, e claro que faltou alguns "azeites". Dá uma olhada na foto.

Suporte oficial do Abiword a plataforma Maemo

Bem hoje o pessoal do Abiword, aceitou as minhas mudanças para suporte da plataforma Maemo. Agora e hora de voltar a trabalhar no codigo para criar novas funcionalidades e corrigir alguns bugs.

Hoje terminei o port do Abiword (versão HEAD do cvs) para a plataforma Maemo.
